Tom Banton, with his knock of 84 against the Sharjah Warriorz, has become the highest run-scorer in this year’s ILT20. Although he had another fantastic outing with the bat, MI Emirates had a game they’d quickly like to move on from and put behind them. He was out at the post-match press conference sharing his thoughts. Excerpts..
Thoughts on the game
The day didn’t go as well as we’d have liked. Towards the end they bowled really well. Tim Southee bowled a really good last over. Sometimes you have to say well done to them. Disappointing day for us but we’ve qualified. It was something we said at the start of the tournament, and we have a chance to win the trophy again.
On becoming the highest run-scorer in this year’s ILT20
I’m not thinking too far, hopefully try and win this tournament for MIE. Taking each game as it comes and don’t want to get too far ahead of myself. I just want to contribute to us winning.
On the race for the playoffs
Everyone still is in with a chance to qualify which is quite exciting for the league. We are through and am not sure if we are second, third or fourth at the moment. It depends on how the rest of the results go.
Whether the team was complacent going into this game
Definitely not. Other people are allowed to play well. It wasn’t to be for us today, but we’ve got a big week coming up with the final a week from today, so hopefully we’ll be there.
