MIEvGG report: Mousley bravely nails yorker after yorker, but Giants seal it off the last ball

By MI Emirates Media

The Gulf Giants needed one run off the last three balls. Dan Mousley, the yorker master, nailed the first yorker in, which Tom Curran could only defend. The next one was even better, right on the base of off-stump , past Curran’s attempted squeeze, sending him back to the pavilion. A new batter was in, one run was needed off one ball. We’d pulled it back superbly to get to this point.

Alas, it’s a low full toss

Muhammad Zuhaib was on strike. Mousley had nailed five yorkers in a row, executing them to perfection. But the last ball of the over ended up being a low full toss that Zuhaib could sweep away. The Giants got home. We were left with broken hearts.

Banton bashes, again

For the fourth time in the season, Tom Banton got himself a big score, this time a 39-ball 56 as he batted around the rest of the batters getting out quickly, with MI Emirates at 57/4 in the 11th over at one stage. He found good company in the ever-reliable Kieron Pollard, who smashed a 25-ball 34 to ensure we finished strong with 151 on the board.

A tug of war all along

While Alzarri Joseph and Fazalhaq Farooqi struck early, Tom Alsop and Gerhard Erasmus got the Gulf Giants back a bit with 30s respectively. But wickets kept falling at regular intervals and at no stage was the game in anybody’s control. Sadly, we won’t have the two points at the end of it.

Spirit of Cricket, ft. MI Emirates

There was some confusion at the end of the 18th over when Tom Curran left his crease after taking a single off the last ball assuming the over to have been called. But Pooran whipped the balls off, the third umpire too gave it out, but MI Emirates withdrew the appeal and Curran was allowed to continue batting. A solid case of upholding the Spirit of the Game here was on show.
